The Patient Care Technician provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the RN or licensed independent practitioner. This role involves providing safe and direct care to patients in their assigned unit, monitoring their conditions, and updating the healthcare team. The PCT will provide direct and indirect care to patients with and without medical/surgical complications to meet their comfort, personal hygiene, and safety needs, in accordance with nursing and medical plans of care and VCUHS policy. The position also requires maintaining a safe, clean, and stocked environment, managing supplies, and contributing to the patient experience by identifying patients, observing safety goals, and reporting any concerns. Responsibilities include obtaining and recording patient information, vital signs, and assisting with specimen collection. The PCT must attend all mandatory in-services and trainings, adhere to online training requirements, and ensure patient safety through participation in initiatives. Establishing and maintaining courteous and effective rapport with patients, visitors, co-workers, and the healthcare team is essential, along with demonstrating sensitivity and responsiveness to their needs. Performs other duties as assigned.
