The Patient Care Technician provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the RN or licensed independent practitioner. This role involves providing safe and direct care to patients in their assigned unit, monitoring their conditions, and updating the healthcare team. The PCT also provides direct and indirect care to patients to meet their comfort, personal hygiene, and safety needs, ensuring care is in accordance with nursing and medical plans of care and hospital policies. Maintaining a safe, clean, and stocked environment is crucial, as is contributing to the patient experience by identifying patients, observing safety goals, and reporting any changes or incidents. The role includes obtaining and recording patient information, such as vital signs and intake/output, and assisting with specimen collection. Attendance at mandatory in-services and trainings is required, along with adherence to patient safety initiatives. Establishing and maintaining courteous and effective rapport with patients, visitors, and co-workers is essential.
