The Patient Care Technician attends to the daily living, clinical, and safety needs of an assigned group of patients and supports licensed nursing associates by performing patient care activities and related non-professional services. The role provides clinical support to the care team and performs tasks that do not require a license, while modeling the organization’s mission, vision, and values. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the technician provides personal care and assistance with activities of daily living, documents care, collects specimens, obtains vital signs and intake and output measurements, and performs EKGs, blood glucose testing, and phlebotomy. The technician reports abnormal results, helps prevent hospital-acquired pressure injuries, observes skin integrity with the RN, and assists with bedside procedures and equipment setup. The position also supports unit operations and care quality by serving as a preceptor for PCTs, assisting with orientation and competency checkoffs, cross-training as a Unit Coordinator, participating in purposeful rounding and unit quality initiatives, and maintaining a safe, clean, orderly patient-care environment. Clear, collaborative communication with patients, families, and clinical staff is expected, along with compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements.
