This patient care technician position is for students currently enrolled in a nursing program. The role involves assisting the care team in coordinating patient activities and services, communicating with physicians, patients, and families, and providing direct patient care under the supervision of an RN/LPN. Responsibilities include assisting with personal care needs, exercising and ambulating patients, obtaining vital signs, performing procedures like EKGs, collecting specimens, and documenting care in the electronic medical record. The position also involves assisting with patient admissions, discharges, transfers, and transporting, as well as answering unit phones. Duties of an Observation Assistant may also be performed as needed. This is a night shift position requiring commitment to working at least 48 hours every 6 weeks, with 24 of those hours on weekend time. An orientation will be held the week of starting, from Monday to Thursday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. The unit type is medical-surgical.
