About The Position

The Multi-Specialty Clinic at Health West, located at the MUSC Citadel Mall in West Ashley, is a single clinic that serves multiple specialties throughout the week, including Allergy, Cardiology, Endocrinology, GI, Neurology, and Nephrology. The Patient Care Tech in this clinic reports to the Clinic Manager and operates under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role involves performing multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Key aspects include assisting in maintaining patient safety and providing patient education. The team, comprising RNs, LPNs, and Medical Assistants, works collaboratively with providers from each specialty to deliver comprehensive patient care. The position also encompasses clerical duties and contributes to the overall financial well-being of the clinic operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required with a minimum of one year of patient care work experience in a health care facility, at the time of hire
  • Certified Nursing Assistant
  • High school diploma or GED required and required enrollment in a healthcare related program within two years of hire
  • High school diploma or GED required and a current MUHA or MUSCP Care Team Member
  • Successful completion of a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant course at an accredited institution or equivalent training
  • EMT or Paramedic certification
  • Nursing student enrolled in an accredited institution with the completion of nursing fundamentals course
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required

Responsibilities

  • Rooming patients
  • Taking vital signs and health history
  • Documenting in an electronic medical record
  • Returning patient messages
  • Giving injections
  • Assisting with minor procedures
  • Measuring vital signs (temp, pulse, resp, BP, pain, oxygen sat)
  • Measuring height and weight
  • Measuring head, chest, and abdominal circumferences as appropriate to patient population
  • Assisting patient with nutritional, hygiene, elimination, ambulation and comfort related needs
  • Preparing patients for exam and minor office procedures
  • Perform clerical duties
  • Ensure overall financial well-being of the clinic operations
  • Schedule tests and procedures
  • Utilize correct communication tools and devices in providing care
  • Establish a caring, trusting relationship with the caller and elicit information related to the reason for the call and current symptoms
  • Use medical equipment safely and effectively in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, policy, and/or clinic guidelines to ensure patient and staff safety
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service by incorporating AIDET, MUSC Excellence, and Service Recovery
