Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Transitional Care Unit. This is a Part Time, Night Shift (12-hour shift) position. The rehabilitation nursing unit is a 16-bed medical/surgical unit that specializes in rehabilitation. Common diagnoses include, but are not limited to: CVA, spinal cord injury, amputations, major multiple trauma, brain injury, bilateral joint replacement, neurological disorders (i.e. multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, Guillain-Barre Syndrome and Parkinson’s disease), and cardiac/pulmonary disorders, including patients following heart transplants, Left Ventricular Assist Devices and patients with pulmonary hypertension on special medications no longer requiring titration. This unit does not have telemetry monitoring or ventilators. The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and complies with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse. Observes patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and documents in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any change to the nurse or medical staff.
