Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Medicine unit. This is a Full Time, Night Shift (12-hour shift) position. The hours are 7:00pm to 7:00am, with three 12-hour shifts per week (36 hours total), including rotating weekends. The 24-bed Medicine unit serves a diverse patient population including those with cardiac conditions, renal failure, vascular issues, sepsis, pneumonia, sickle cell disease, those requiring OR-prep, and various wound care needs. The Patient Care Technician provides direct patient care, assists with daily living activities, monitors vital signs, aids with mobility and ambulation, performs phlebotomy, point-of-care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal. They adhere to patient safety practices under the guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN). The PCT also observes patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions, documents findings accurately and in a timely manner, and reports any changes to the nurse or medical staff.
