About The Position

Assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic and advanced patient care activities, and assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the supervision of licensed nursing staff. Requirements

  • Must possess a minimum of six-months successful experience as a certified nursing assistant (CNA).
  • Validated and successful completion of SGHS’s Patient Care Technician competencies
  • Certification as a Nursing Assistant in the state of Georgia
  • American Heart Association BLS Certification

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to patient database by collecting and documenting patient information, such as height, weight, allergies, vital signs, and intake /output measurements.
  • Prepares patient rooms (beds and equipment) for receiving patient admissions, returning surgical patients, transfers, or discharges.
  • Assists in and accompanies patients in the admission, transfer, and discharge procedures.
  • Always correctly identifies patient by name for any direct care procedures and treatments or diet; checks patient’s name band for correct identification: assures proper name and that the ID band is secure on the patient’s wrist.
  • Provides general patient care, such as morning care, which may include bed bath, oral hygiene, combing hair, dressing patient, evening care, back rubs, changing bed linens, cleaning overbed table and bedside stand, straightening room, and other general care as necessary throughout the shift.
  • Provides for patient privacy, at all times; closes room door and cubicle curtains for all procedures.
  • Prepares patient for meals, and assists with meals or feeding the patient.
  • Distributes drinking water, ice, and other nourishments to patients as ordered.
  • Collects and transports specimens as ordered or requested.
  • Reports any changes observed in condition or behavior of patients in a timely manner.
  • Responds promptly to patient needs and call lights (whether that of assigned patient or not), and checks on patients regularly between tasks.
  • Provides for patient safety through preventative measures (bed controls, nurse/patient communication system, side rails, and patient education).
  • Demonstrates the following skills, competently, effectively, and safely as delegated/directed by a licensed nurse: Discontinue peripheral IV, discontinue indwelling urinary (foley) catheter, phlebotomy, EKG, bladder scanning, wound care- dressings (foam borders and preventative care); obtaining blood products from the Lab; nasopharyngeal specimen swabs; and ostomy appliance change.
  • With successful completion of appropriate training and competency evaluation, may perform the duties of a Monitor Technician.
