Join us and be part of a team that’s shaping the future of women’s health. 3700/3800 is a 56-bed Mother Baby unit providing service and care to mother-baby couplets who are well, but additionally treating mothers with pre-eclampsia, newborns whose mothers are diagnosed with chorioamnionitis, high risk postpartum conditions such as Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, and surgical patients who have undergone C-section, post-partum tubal ligation, and/or hysterectomy during childbirth. This is a fast-paced unit that provides staff with the extremely rewarding opportunity to impact and educate new families as well as work through adoption and surrogate scenarios.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Enrollment in a Nursing Program with: 1 year of general healthcare experience
  • 6 months experience as a UPMC Nursing Assistant/CAN with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion
  • Completion of at least 1 nursing program clinical rotation required
  • Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician class upon hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance

Nice To Haves

  • EMT or Paramedic (or in a program) preferred
  • Other clearances may be required based on department of hire

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care including assisting with patient procedures and activities of daily living.
  • Assists with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
  • Provides feedback to the RN regarding patient care and reports changes in patient status.
  • Performs UPMC nursing core nursing assistant responsibilities (blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections and Foley care).
  • Performs at least four of the following BU identified tasks: phlebotomy, 12 lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, or IV catheter removal.
  • Routinely performs ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning patients).
  • Performs point of care testing (inc. blood glucose), weights, vital signs, I&O, telemetry monitor application/reapplication, HAC & PSI prevention (TEDs/SCDs).
  • May also apply simple dressings, placement and removal of restraints, 12 lead EKG, bladder scan, all specimen collections.
