About The Position

This Patient Care Technician role is in a busy orthopedic and sports medicine clinic. In this role, you support the physician and clinical team by helping with patient flow, rooming patients, preparing patients for visits, and assisting with basic clinical tasks. You play a key role in keeping the clinic running smoothly and ensuring patients have a good experience from check-in to check-out. You’ll work closely with physicians, APPs, nursing staff, athletic trainers, surgery schedulers, radiology, and patient access. The Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs basic patient care services and supports activities within ambulatory services. Patient Care Technicians are multi-skilled to provide expanded services under the direct supervision of a licensed clinical professional.

Requirements

• High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required.
• Minimum of six months’ experience preferred.
• Experience in a clinic setting preferred.
• Knowledge of healthcare, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and medical equipment/supplies preferred.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
• Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers required or within the first 60 days of employment.
• If working in North Dakota (ND) and not a Certified Nursing Assistant, must be registered as a Nursing Assistant (NA) through the North Dakota Department of Health within four months from the date of initial employment.

Responsibilities

• Obtains and records patient vital signs including height, weight, blood pressure, visual acuity, and color vision screening.
• Performs drug screens and point of care urinalysis.
• Handles reception and clerical tasks.
• Prepares patient treatment areas for use.
• Prepares and cleans medical equipment.
• Disposes of biomedical waste in accordance with standards and policy.
• Cleans and maintains patient care area(s) or treatment rooms.
• Monitors stock levels of medical inventory and restocks or reorders as needed.
• Works patient registries and identifies opportunities to improve patient care.
