The Patient Care Technician provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the RN or licensed independent practitioner. This role involves providing safe and direct care to patients in their assigned unit, monitoring their conditions, and updating the healthcare team. The technician will provide direct and indirect care to patients to meet their comfort, personal hygiene, and safety needs, adhering to nursing and medical plans of care and VCUHS policies. Responsibilities include maintaining a safe, clean, and stocked environment, managing supplies, and contributing to the patient experience by ensuring patient identification, observing safety goals, and reporting patient responses or incidents. The role also involves obtaining and recording patient information, collecting specimens, attending mandatory training, and participating in patient safety initiatives. Establishing and maintaining courteous and effective rapport with patients, visitors, and colleagues is essential, along with demonstrating sensitivity and responsiveness to their needs. The Patient Care Technician must demonstrate knowledge and skills for equitable, age-appropriate care across various patient populations, including Neonates, Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics.
