About The Position

This full-time, night-shift role is on the Adult Transplant Surgical Unit at University. The Patient Care Technician (also known as a Patient Care Assistant or PCA) provides bedside support and helps create a positive patient experience by anticipating patients’ needs. This includes providing drinks, assisting with meal ordering, encouraging walking, helping with baths, and providing clean linens and gowns. The technician provides clinical assistance to bedside registered nurses by obtaining vital signs and reporting abnormalities or changes in patient behavior to the primary RN or charge nurse so that patients can be assessed and treated promptly. Patient safety is supported through measures such as using gait belts and bed or chair alarms, and staying within arm’s reach of patients while they are moving. The role requires appropriate patient-care knowledge, up-to-date knowledge of relevant procedures and standards, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage a demanding workload in a high-stress environment. IU Health requires new hires to receive specified vaccinations, including influenza and COVID-19 vaccines, unless an exemption is approved; proof of prior vaccination may be submitted. The posting states that the COVID-19 vaccine was not required to begin employment and that team members needed to be fully vaccinated by September 1, 2021.
