About The Position

Responsible and accountable for direct and indirect care of patients. Assists the nursing staff with the daily routine and functions of the nursing unit, including transport, discharge, passing water, personal hygiene, activities of daily living, checking and passing meal trays, and answering bells. Conducts hourly rounds on assigned patients and reports pertinent observations, changes, and reactions to the appropriate person. Performs clerical duties related to the coordination of the unit and patient care, such as updating the bed status board, managing rental beds, tracking work orders, and notifying physician consults. Provides clerical direction to new staff, students, and volunteers. Confers with departments regarding scheduling of patient activities and procedures. Prepares and updates patient records for transfer and obtains records according to policies and procedures. Answers the phone, interacts with ancillary departments to facilitate patient testing, pages physicians, and completes transfers. Effectively utilizes the Meditech electronic health record and assists in the admission process by accurately collecting and entering patient information. Focuses on patient safety through fall and restraint reduction. Obtains vital signs, weight, height, intake and output, specimens, blood glucose, and EKGs, documenting as appropriate. Is cognizant of and addresses patient comfort and pain management, expressing concern and understanding regarding patient and family satisfaction. Maintains unit and nursing station supplies, including timely completion of requisitions to ensure proper stock levels. Responsible for inventory and restocking of direct and indirect care items in all nursing units and patient rooms. Maintains standards of nursing care within the guidelines of the nursing department by demonstrating knowledge of standards of nursing care when implementing the plan of care. Follows established charge procedures for patient charge items. Screens patients, visitors, employees, and others upon entrance into buildings as directed. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent within one year from date of hire.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Legible handwriting.
  • Through education, experience, and/or training, the individual is qualified to work with infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Fluent knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Current BLS Healthcare Provider card.

Nice To Haves

  • EMT, Certified Nursing or Medical Assistant preferred.
  • Experience in data entry or typing preferred.
  • Previous clerical experience preferred.
