Assists the nursing staff with the daily routine and functions of the nursing unit, including transport, discharge, personal hygiene, activities of daily living, and meal tray management. Conducts hourly patient rounds and reports observations to the appropriate personnel. Performs clerical duties to coordinate unit operations and patient care, such as updating the bed status board, managing rental beds, tracking work orders, and notifying physician consults. Provides clerical direction to new staff, students, and volunteers. Confers with departments regarding patient activity and procedure scheduling. Prepares and updates patient records for transfers and obtains records according to policies. Answers phones, interacts with ancillary departments, pages physicians, and completes transfers. Utilizes the Meditech electronic health record effectively. Assists in the admission process by accurately collecting and entering patient information. Focuses on patient safety through fall and restraint reduction. Obtains vital signs, weight, height, intake and output, specimens, blood glucose, and EKGs, documenting as appropriate. Addresses patient comfort and pain management, expressing concern and understanding for patient and family satisfaction. Maintains unit and nursing station supplies, including requisitions and inventory/restocking of care items. Adheres to nursing department standards and follows established charge procedures. Screens individuals entering buildings as directed. Performs other assigned duties.
