This role is a combination role of Patient Care Technician and Unit Secretary. May be used in both roles depending on unit needs. It involves entering specific patient treatments and charges to facilitate the management of the patient healthcare record, assisting the care team in coordinating patient activities and services, and coordinating communication and resources between the care team, physicians, patients, and family members. The role also includes assisting patients with personal care needs, assisting with exercising and ambulating patients, obtaining patient vital signs, and performing procedures such as EKGs and specimen collection under the supervision of an RN/LPN. Additionally, the role involves documenting basic patient care into the electronic medical record, assisting nursing and clerical staff with patient management, and answering unit phones. The Patient Care Technician/Unit Secretary may also perform duties of an Observation Assistant as needed.
