About The Position

This position involves dual responsibilities as a Patient Care Technician and a Unit Secretary within the Behavioral Health unit at Swedish Hospital. As a Patient Care Technician, under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), you will perform patient care tasks and procedures to ensure the comfort and safety of patients. As a Unit Secretary, you will provide essential clerical support to the nursing unit, including transcribing physician orders, scheduling diagnostic tests, maintaining patient charts, answering phones, and relaying messages. This role requires excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, and follow directions effectively. A high school level of communication and math skills is necessary, and successful completion of an in-depth orientation regarding patient care skills is required.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an accredited nursing assistant training course or minimum six months of previous patient care experience or equivalent or completion of one nursing clinical rotation is preferred.
  • Currently CNA is required.
  • Successful completion of care Companion Course within six months of hire when course is required by the department.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including teamwork, ability to prioritize, ability to receive and follow through on directions.
  • Required to attend in depth orientation regarding patient care skill tasks.
  • High school level of communication and/or math skills prior to hire.
  • Current CPR certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient care tasks and procedures necessary to provide for the care, comfort and safety of patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Provide clerical support for the assigned nursing unit or department.
  • Transcribe physicians’ orders and enter them into the computer.
  • Schedule diagnostic tests and therapies for patients.
  • Assemble and maintain patients’ charts.
  • Answer telephone and intercom calls.
  • Provide routine information and relay calls and messages.
