The Patient Care Technician will assist patients with personal care needs, including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, use of bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering patient call lights, and bed making, all under the supervision of an RN/LPN. This role also involves assisting with patient exercises and ambulation, utilizing correct body mechanics, and maintaining patient safety and comfort. The technician will obtain patient vital signs, input and output checks, and accu-checks, reporting any abnormalities to the nurse. They may also perform procedures such as EKGs, perineal care, emptying foley bags, applying restraints, and giving backrubs, as directed by an RN/LPN. Specimen collection and delivery are also part of the duties. The role requires documenting basic patient care in the electronic medical record and assisting nursing and clerical staff with admitting, discharging, transferring, ambulating, transporting, and observing patients. Additionally, the technician will answer unit phones and direct calls appropriately, and may perform duties of an Observation Assistant as needed.
