The Patient Care Technician (PCT) will assist patients with personal care needs, including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, and using the bedpan or urinal. They will also be responsible for positioning patients, answering call lights, making beds, and assisting with exercising and ambulating patients. The PCT will obtain vital signs, monitor input and output, perform accu-checks, and report any abnormalities to the supervising RN/LPN. They may also perform procedures such as EKGs, perineal care, emptying foley bags, applying restraints, and giving backrubs. Specimen collection and documentation in the electronic medical record are also key responsibilities. Additionally, the PCT will assist nursing and clerical staff with patient admissions, discharges, transfers, ambulation, transportation, and observation, ensuring patient safety. They will answer unit phones and direct calls appropriately, and may perform duties of an Observation Assistant as needed.
