The Patient Care Technician will assist patients with personal care needs, including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, and using the bedpan or urinal. They will also be responsible for positioning patients, responding to call lights, and making beds, all under the supervision of an RN/LPN. Additionally, the technician will assist with patient exercises and ambulation, ensuring correct body mechanics and maintaining patient safety and comfort. Key tasks include obtaining vital signs, monitoring input and output, performing accu-checks, and reporting any abnormalities to the nurse. The role may also involve performing procedures such as EKGs, perineal care, emptying Foley bags, applying restraints, and giving backrubs, as directed by the RN/LPN. Specimen collection (urine, feces, sputum) and delivery, as well as documenting basic patient care in the electronic medical record, are also part of the responsibilities. The technician will support nursing and clerical staff with patient admissions, discharges, transfers, ambulation, transportation, and observation to ensure safety. Answering unit phones and directing calls appropriately is also expected. The role may require performing duties of an Observation Assistant as needed.
