About The Position

Saline Memorial Hospital is seeking a full-time Patient Care Technician (PCT) for their Med Surg unit. This role is crucial in providing basic patient care, assisting with daily living activities, monitoring vital signs, and supporting nursing staff. The unit emphasizes teamwork, compassion, and clear communication, fostering a collaborative environment for safe, high-quality care. The position involves managing the tech desk, documenting care, and participating in performance improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Critical thinking, decisive judgment, ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment.
• Rapid learning and navigation of multiple software systems.
• Effective English communication (read/write/speak).
• Ability to complete the Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire.
• High School diploma preferred.
• 6 months of healthcare experience.
• BCLS required.

Nice To Haves

• SRNA or EMT preferred.
• Handle with Care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic patient care as delegated by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, possible blood glucose measurements, and accurate intake/output recording.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, eating, toileting, ambulation).
• Observes and promptly reports abnormal physical, mental, or emotional findings to nursing staff.
• Maintains clean, safe, and well-stocked patient rooms and common areas.
• Manages the tech desk and supports nursing/physician staff and overall department throughput.
• Documents care and activities per unit standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned; participates in performance improvement and required education.
