The Patient Care Technician provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the RN or licensed independent practitioner. This role involves providing safe and direct care to patients in their assigned unit, monitoring their conditions, and updating the healthcare team. The technician will provide direct and indirect care to patients with and without medical/surgical complications to meet their comfort, personal hygiene, and safety needs, in accordance with nursing and medical plans of care and VCUHS policy. Responsibilities include maintaining a safe, clean, and stocked environment, managing supplies and equipment, and contributing to the patient experience by identifying patients, observing safety goals, and reporting any changes or incidents to the appropriate personnel. The role also includes obtaining and recording patient information such as vital signs, height and weight, and assisting with specimen collection. Attendance at mandatory in-services and trainings is required, along with participation in patient safety initiatives. Establishing and maintaining courteous and effective rapport with patients, visitors, and co-workers is essential. The Patient Population served includes Neonates (0-4 weeks), Infants (1-12 months), Pediatrics (1-12 years), Adolescents (13-17 years), Adults (18-64 years), and Geriatrics (65 years and older), requiring the ability to provide equitable care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
