About The Position

UPMC Altoona is seeking a Patient Care Technician I to support our Mammography Department. This is a Monday–Friday, daylight position with no weekends or holidays, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking work-life balance while building or continuing a career in healthcare. Our Mammography team plays a critical role in guiding patients through breast health screening, diagnostic imaging, and biopsy procedures. This role is ideal for a compassionate, detail-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced outpatient setting and enjoys supporting patients through sometimes stressful or emotional experiences. You’ll join a compassionate and collaborative team dedicated to guiding patients through their breast health journey, working closely with technologists, nurses, radiologists, and providers across Mammography, Ultrasound, and MRI.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of basic information system training.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class or graduate of a secondary program in Medical Assistant curriculum preferred.
  • Microcomputer experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate awareness of behavior on the efficient functioning of the department.
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures, including standard precautions.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment conducive to patient care.
  • Establish professional, respectful, and effective communication with patients and team members.
  • Provide feedback to licensed staff regarding patient care and changes in patient status.
  • Strictly adhere to all policies related to patient care and confidentiality.
  • Assist with transporting patients and supporting basic patient needs as appropriate in an outpatient setting.
  • Document care activities in the medical record according to established procedures.
  • Acquire, stock, and distribute supplies and equipment to support patient care delivery.
  • Constructively receive feedback and actively work to improve skills and knowledge.
  • Assist with Ultrasound-guided, Stereotactic, and MRI-guided breast biopsies, including: Pre-biopsy paperwork and patient preparation, Room and procedure tray setup, Participating in the timeout process, Specimen collection and delivery, Cleaning and turning over exam rooms between patients.
  • Assist with breast patient paperwork across Mammography, Ultrasound, and MRI.
  • Support efficient patient flow in a high-volume outpatient environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental operations.
