The Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs direct patient care tasks such as bathing, oral care, and feeding, and assists patients with activities of daily living under the supervision of a Nurse. Responsibilities include obtaining and recording vital signs, monitoring and recording daily intake and output, and obtaining specimens, including non-invasive body fluids and blood specimens. The PCT monitors and performs actions to decrease patient length of stay, including using a computerized Bed Tracking System, performing timely designated discharge duties, and communicating discharge information to appropriate staff. The PCT assists Physicians/Nurses with diagnostic tests, clinical procedures, and other tasks as requested, communicates patient needs and observed/reported changes in patient condition to the supervising Nurse or Physician, and documents all interactions in the patient's medical record. The PCT may also assist nursing in the retrieval and delivering of medications per the unit standard.
