Requirements

  • Completion of nursing assistant program, or EMT program, or completion of first block of nursing program, upon hire
  • Emergency Medical Technician: AZ, upon hire
  • Certified Nursing Assistant: AZ, upon hire
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient related care tasks (direct care, bathing, oral care, feeding).
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living and provides direct patient care under supervision of Nurse.
  • Obtains and records patient vital signs.
  • Monitors and records daily intake and output.
  • Obtains specimens, including non-invasive body fluids and blood specimens.
  • Monitors and performs actions to decrease patient length of stay including but not limited to: use of computerized Bed Tracking System, performing timely designated discharge duties, and communicating discharge information to appropriate staff.
  • Assists Physician/Nurse with diagnostic tests, clinical procedures, and other tasks as requested.
  • Communicates patient needs and observed/reported changes in patient condition to supervising Nurse or Physician.
  • Documents all interactions in patient's medical record.
  • May assist nursing in the retrieval and delivering of medications per the unit standard.
  • Assists the nurse/physician during examinations, treatments and procedures as requested.
  • Retrieves necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Assists in patient/equipment preparation.
  • Performs follow-up actions as directed.
  • Documents clinically relevant findings in the patient's record according to hospital protocols.
  • Prepares patients for transportation to other departments/areas.
