About The Position

The Patient Care Tech performs delegated direct patient care activities for an assigned group of patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The role is on the Med Surg Unit at INTEGRIS Health Canadian Valley Hospital in Yukon, Oklahoma, and is a full-time night-shift position. Population-specific competencies are required. The position follows applicable National Patient Safety Goals and department-specific competencies completed during orientation.

Requirements

Current BLS certification, or completion within 90 days.
Ability to communicate effectively in English.
Complete department-specific competencies during orientation.
Meet at least one of the following education or experience pathways: successful completion of a recognized nursing assistant course; successful completion of an accredited nursing program’s Nursing Fundamentals or Introduction to Nursing course that includes a skills lab or clinical rotation, with verification by transcript or official notice; enroll in a CNA training program within 45 days and complete it within 90 days of hire; have 3 months of employment in an INTEGRIS patient care area with nursing assistant duty training and observation certified by the clinical nurse manager or clinical director; have 12 months of nursing assistant experience in an acute care facility, nursing home, home care setting, or long-term care facility; or have prior military hospital corpsman medical training.

Responsibilities

Perform personal patient care tasks, including mouth care, making beds, bathing, perineal and hair care, shaving patients, and emptying bedpans or urinals.
Assist with patient safety, including checking identification armbands, following fall protocols and restraint practices, positioning patients, promoting an environment for rest and sleep, and reporting incidents or injuries.
Perform treatments that may include urinary catheter care, enema administration, preparation of sitz baths, applying compresses, and assisting with patient ambulation.
May retrieve and transport medications.
