About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) position on the MedSurg 1 Unit at Piedmont Eastside in Snellville, GA is a part-time role requiring two 12-hour shifts per week, with some weekend shifts. This unit serves a general adult patient population with a wide range of illnesses and injuries of varying complexities. The PCT will collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and various therapy departments. The role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is a team player, and is interested in ongoing professional development. The unit is supported by a Charge Nurse, other PCTs, a Day Unit Secretary, a Unit Based Educator, and a Clinical Manager.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of patient care experience
  • CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant
  • Certification from a Patient Care Technician program

Responsibilities

  • Assists with patient assessments, including collecting data regarding the patient’s physical, psychosocial, and health history.
  • Documents patient safety and quality initiatives.
  • Assists patients and the healthcare team with mobility, feeding, oral care, bathing, toileting, glucose checks, and patient turning to maintain skin integrity.
  • Performs purposeful rounding.
  • Functions independently with treatments, equipment, and procedures appropriate to the scope of clinical practice.
  • Documents all vital signs and treatments provided in the EMR in a timely manner.
  • Communicates effectively between all care partners.
  • Ensures the primary nurse is aware of any issues, changes in patient condition, or concerns.
  • Assists with the admission and discharge process.
  • Meets patients in their rooms upon admission whenever possible to obtain vital signs and assist with patient intake.
  • Reinforces patient education provided by licensed staff.
  • Responds to call lights and fall alarms.
  • If acting in the Sitter role, remains with the patient at all times unless relieved by an appropriate staff member.
  • If acting in the Unit Secretary role, acts as a clerical resource for all staff, manages incoming calls and visitors, and facilitates patient care and movement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
