About The Position

The Patient Care Tech, under the supervision of licensed clinical staff, provides care to patients from birth through the lifecycle, demonstrating competency with treatments, procedures and equipment appropriate to the clinical setting and hospital policy. The Medical/Surgical unit at Piedmont Eastside uses bedside report handoff at change of shift, purposeful rounding for safety and service, and quality initiatives such as pain assessment and reassessment, pressure ulcer prevention, infection prevention strategies for central lines and indwelling urinary catheters, etc. The unit has an educator to help address competency, onboarding, and learning needs, and a charge nurse out of staffing or with limited patient load to facilitate daily operations. The unit utilizes the EPIC computer system.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required
  • No experience required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required

Nice To Haves

  • Previous hospital experience highly preferred.
  • 1 year of patient care experience Preferred
  • CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant Preferred
  • Certification from a Patient Care Technician program Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists with patient assessments to include collection of data regarding the patient’s physical, psychosocial, health history and document patient safety and quality initiatives.
  • Assists patients and healthcare team with mobility, feeding, oral care, bathing, toileting, glucose checks, patient turning to maintain skin integrity and purposeful rounding while functioning independently with treatments, equipment and procedures appropriate to the scope of clinical practice.
  • Documents in the EMR in a timely manner all vital signs and treatments provided.
  • Communicates between all care partners effectively. Ensures primary nurse is aware of any issues, changes in patient condition, or concerns.
  • Assists with admission and discharge process. Meets patient in the room when admitted whenever possible to obtain vital signs and assist with patient intake.
  • Reinforces patient education provided by licensed staff.
  • Responds to call lights and fall alarms.
  • Where applicable, if acting in the Sitter role, the Patient Care Tech must remain with the patient at all times unless relieved by an appropriate staff member.
  • Where applicable, if acting in the Unit Secretary role, the Patient Care Tech will act as a clerical resource for all staff to help facilitate the proper care and potential movement of the patient through the facility and beyond while managing incoming calls and visitors in a positive manner.
  • All other duties as assigned.
