About The Position

Join us at Piedmont Eastside as we continue to grow! We currently have 36 Med/Surg (Surgical Dept.) beds that help meet the complex needs of our community. The Medical/Surgical unit at Piedmont Eastside uses bedside report handoff at change of shift, purposeful rounding for safety and service, and quality initiatives such as pain assessment and reassessment, pressure ulcer prevention, and infection prevention strategies for central lines and indwelling urinary catheters. The unit has a unit educator to help address competency, onboarding, and learning needs, and a charge nurse out of staffing or with limited patient load to facilitate daily operations. The EPIC computer system is utilized. Piedmont supports nurses with the compensation, work/life balance, and resources they deserve. Requirements

  • Graduate from a nursing program
  • No experience required
  • New Graduates of a nursing program eligible
  • RN - Registered Nurse - Georgia State Licensure and/or NLC/eNCL Multistate Licensure
  • Current License in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or NLC/eNLC Multistate License.
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1 year in a hospital setting for PRN positions
  • Advanced certification in field of specialty, if applicable
  • ACLS Certification - (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date) within 180 Days
  • CDN (Certified Dialysis Certificate) preferred
  • PALS Certification - required at Piedmont Columbus Hospital (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date)
  • PEARS or PALS Certification - required at Piedmont Athens Hospital (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date)
  • Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification – prior to independent chemotherapy administration Upon Hire
  • NRP by the end of orientation period, AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Program within 12 months of start date
  • NRP by the end of orientation period
  • PreOp/PACU/ENDO/CSU – ACLS; PALS if unit provides care to pediatric patients (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date)
  • OR – BLS required only

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient assessments to include collection of data regarding the patient’s physical, psychosocial and health history.
  • Appropriately evaluates the developmental age of the patient when performing assessments, treatments and patient/family education.
  • Organizes patient data into the formulation of a plan of care; identifies additional information needed and makes care decisions based on identified needs. Identifies expected patient outcomes.
  • Carries out plan of care to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Provides patient care that is specific to the setting, identified needs and plan; ensures that the care provided is appropriate to the severity of the disease, condition, impairment or disability.
  • Oversees activities of ancillary and support team members.
  • Identifies teaching opportunities and provides the resources necessary for achieving the educational goals of the patients.
  • Communications issues/concerns to the Charge Nurse, Clinical Manager and/or physician as appropriate.
  • Documents patient care and concerns in the patient record.
