About The Position

This highly technical, fast-paced, and challenging Patient Care Technician position involves collaborating with multidisciplinary team members to provide optimal patient care. The role focuses on assisting with patient care and providing support services to patients, the nursing unit, and professional staff, all under the direction of professional staff. The Patient Care Technician is expected to support the mission, vision, values, and strategic goals of Methodist Health System. The job is situated at Methodist Dallas Medical Center, a 595-bed acute care teaching and referral hospital, which is the flagship of Methodist Health System. Methodist Dallas is recognized for its adult Level I Trauma Center, Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center, and the Linda and Mitch Hart Breast Center. Requirements

  • Graduate from a certified Patient Care Technician, Nursing Assistant, or Medical Assistant Program
  • Or 1 year experience as a nursing assistant in a comparable healthcare facility
  • Or nursing student who documents completion of the first semester of the nursing program
  • Or documented military experience as a medic/corpsman
  • Or foreign nursing graduate not currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the
  • Or EMT Certification/Paramedic License Experience
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support card required
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Ability to remain flexible and adaptable to change
  • Able to develop and maintain good working relationships with all levels of staff, patients and family members
  • Able to follow oral and written instructions
  • Demonstrates accountability for own actions
  • Demonstrates compliance with hospital dress code
  • Demonstrates initiative, is a self-starter
  • Is able to work independently, prioritizing and organizing workload effectively to complete tasks within the time frames delegated
  • Demonstrates knowledge of medical terms and names of medications
  • Demonstrates understanding of MHD guidelines and reference, Infection Control guidelines, and MHS safety guidelines
  • Proactive not reactive, analyzes problems accurately, develops recommendations and takes appropriate actions to solve problems

  • If specially trained, perform additional functions for patients specifically delineated for the assigned unit
  • Collect, appropriately label, and deliver lab specimens to the lab in a timely manner, utilizing appropriate safety measures to prevent patient and staff injury
  • Communicate results of selected tests to professional staff in a timely manner
  • Conform to safety standards dictated by regulatory agencies (e.g., safety manuals, MSD sheets, OSHA issues)
  • Maintain a clean work environment, adequate equipment, and supplies
  • Ensure equipment is kept in good working condition and related supplies are at desired par levels
  • Perform patient care activities delegated and supervised by the professional staff
  • Perform activities of daily living such as baths, oral hygiene, and oral feedings to the satisfaction of the patient and professional staff
  • Perform patient mobility (e.g., turning, lifting, moving) utilizing appropriate safety measures to prevent patient and self-injury
  • Offer, administer, and record patient meals and nourishments in a timely manner
  • Assist Nursing staff with admission, discharge, transfer, and transport of patients
  • Respond effectively in emergencies and assist in the prevention of patient injury
  • Initiate CPR when appropriate
  • Utilize side rails and restraints to prevent patient injury
  • Report to professional staff patients at increased risk for injury
  • Other duties as assigned
