A Patient Care Technician (PCT) works with nurses and doctors to provide patient care. They perform tasks such as checking vital signs (temperature, heartbeat, breathing), assisting patients with mobility, dressing, and eating, and collecting samples like urine. PCTs are responsible for reporting any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse. They also help with patient walks, hygiene, and weighing patients. The PCT operates under the direct supervision of a nurse, ensuring tasks are performed safely and correctly. In some cases, a PCT may also function as a Unit Clerk (HUC), assisting with administrative tasks and paperwork to ensure the hospital runs smoothly and patients receive optimal care. PCTs are considered essential members of the healthcare team, contributing to patient well-being and recovery.
