A Patient Care Technician, or PCT, works with nurses and doctors to care for patients. Some of the tasks they do are checking vital signs like temperature, heartbeat, and breathing, helping patients move around, get dressed, and eat, and collecting samples like urine. They are also responsible for reporting any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse and assisting with patient walks, hygiene, and weighing. The PCT works under the supervision of the nurse, who ensures tasks are performed safely and correctly. Sometimes, the PCT might also be called a Patient Care Technician/Unit Clerk (HUC), assisting with paperwork and other administrative tasks that keep the hospital running smoothly, which enables patients to receive the best care possible. PCTs are essential members of the healthcare team who help patients feel better and get healthy again!
