About The Position

The Patient Care Tech works in the Ortho Sports Surgery department at UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham. Under supervision, the role performs basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities and assists operating room staff, including anesthesia providers, with technical aspects of patient care. The position is scheduled full-time, Monday through Friday, from 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. UAB St. Vincent’s is part of UAB Medicine and serves patients across Alabama. Requirements

BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification accepted.
High school diploma equivalency or one year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.

Responsibilities

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
Assist operating room staff, including anesthesia providers, with certain technical aspects of patient care.
Monitor and control the operating room environment.
Clean and disinfect the surgical suite and/or reusable equipment and supplies; dispose of soiled linen and solid waste.
Clean the anesthetizing location and care for ancillary anesthesia equipment.
Transport patients, equipment, instruments, specimens, and supplies.
Lift and position patients according to practice standards while maintaining awareness of patient and personal safety.
Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living.
Report findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff and document necessary records.
Perform technical patient care duties as directed by the staff nurse, such as oxygen setup, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, and EKGs.
Obtain and record vital signs, weight, and inputs and outputs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
