About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) in the Burn Unit collaborates with nurses and doctors to provide personalized care for patients. They perform essential tasks such as checking vital signs, assisting patients with daily activities like moving, dressing, and eating, collecting samples, and reporting any changes in patient condition to a nurse. The PCT may also assist with paperwork and other administrative tasks, functioning similarly to a Unit Clerk (HUC). They are considered vital members of the healthcare team, contributing to patient recovery and well-being.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • BLS CPR certificate (training can be provided during orientation).
  • Successful completion of one of the following: Completion of previous STNA or CNA training or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training.
  • Direct patient care experience within the last five years: Performing fundamental skills of vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) & direct patient care activities ie. Bathing, turning/positioning, toileting.
  • Currently enrolled in nursing school and have completed at least one clinical rotation.
  • Ability to handle multitasking and interruptions while remaining pleasant.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and listening skills.

  • Previous hospital experience.

Responsibilities

  • Check vital signs, such as temperature, heartbeat, and breathing.
  • Help patients move around, get dressed, and eat.
  • Collect samples like urine.
  • Report any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse.
  • Perform ADLs (Activities of Daily Living).
  • Weigh patients.
  • Assist with paperwork and other tasks that keep the hospital running smoothly.
