About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) in Surgical Services performs basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision. This role assists operating room staff, including anesthesia providers, with technical aspects of patient care. The PCT monitors and controls the operating room environment, cleans and disinfects the surgical suite and equipment, and disposes of waste. They are responsible for transporting patients, equipment, instruments, specimens, and supplies. Additionally, the PCT lifts and positions patients, assists with personal care and activities of daily living, and reports findings or changes in patient condition to nursing staff. They also perform technical patient care duties such as oxygen and pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, and EKGs, and obtain/record vital signs, weight, and input/output.

Requirements

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
  • Assists the operating room staff including the anesthesia providers with certain technical aspects of patient care.
  • Monitors and controls the operating room environment.
  • Cleans and disinfects the surgical suite and/or reusable equipment and supplies.
  • Disposes soiled linen and solid wastes.
  • Cleans anesthetizing location.
  • Cares for ancillary anesthesia equipment.
  • Transports patients, equipment, instruments, specimens and supplies.
  • Lifts and positions patients according to practice standards.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of patient and personal safety.
  • Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
  • Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
  • Documents necessary records.
  • Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
  • Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
