About The Position

Patient Care Tech (PCT) Medical Surgical Bring your passion to Texas Health so we are Better + Together Work location: Texas Health Plano, 6200 West Parker Road, Plano, TX 75093 Work hours: Full-time Days (6:45am to 7:15pm) Three 12-hour day shifts for 36 hours/week with weekend and holiday requirements. 6-week scheduling, working 6 weekend shifts per 6 weeks Medical Surgical/Telemetry, 5A department highlights: Self-scheduling that helps with work/life balance as well as opportunities for mentorship and career growth. Highly engaged/experienced team, consisting of RN’s, PCTs, and charge RN. Positive, supportive team that collaborates in caring for our complex patient population of 29 medical/surgical telemetry patients. The professional PCT exhibits caring behaviors in working with patients and team members.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent Required
  • CLIAFE Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency Required
  • PCT Training Program TX CNA, NHA, NAHP, NCCT, accredited community college program or a THR approved program. Not required to maintain certification when applicable after hire. Upon Hire Required
  • Or EMT - Emergency Medical Technician Military experience with medical training equivalent (Equivalent to EMT-B) Upon Hire Required
  • Or Nursing student who has completed fundamentals or foreign nurse degree program Upon Hire Required
  • Or 1 year of applicable experience in lieu of an active and approved certification. Upon Hire Required
  • And BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly Required
  • And CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training Maintained Annually 90 Days Required
  • Possesses organizational skills to function in a fast paced work environment, positive interpersonal skills, and good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Nursing Students who do not complete course of study in nursing but having completed their Fundamentals Training and EMTs who do not formally retain their EMT status may continue in role if they have consistently demonstrated skills in their PCT position.

Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance to patient according to plan of care.
  • Collects patient data, identifies and reports significant findings to nurse.
  • Assists in admission/transfer/discharge.
  • Provides and Revises patient activities of daily living based on patient/family preferences.
  • Performs technical procedures safely and proficiently.
  • Takes action to reduce or eliminate patient risk.
  • Enters orders into computer or manual system if applicable.
  • Documents accurately and appropriately.
  • In collaboration/consultation with the nurse, adapts care to reflect patient population.
  • In collaboration/consultation with nurse, incorporates cultural/religious needs and beliefs into delivery of care.
  • Keeps patient environment clean and maintains safe environment.
  • Anticipates patient/family and visitor needs and takes action to meet those needs and rounds as appropriate
