About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) in the Medical Surgical/Telemetry, 5A department at Texas Health Plano provides assistance to patients according to the plan of care. This role involves collecting patient data, assisting with admissions, transfers, and discharges, and revising patient activities of daily living based on patient/family preferences. The PCT performs technical procedures safely and proficiently, takes action to reduce or eliminate patient risk, and documents accurately. They adapt care to reflect the patient population and incorporate cultural/religious needs in collaboration with the nurse. The PCT also ensures a clean and safe patient environment, anticipates patient/family needs, and rounds as appropriate. The department offers self-scheduling for work/life balance, opportunities for mentorship and career growth, and is supported by a highly engaged and experienced team of RNs, PCTs, and a charge RN. The team collaborates in caring for a complex patient population of 29 medical/surgical telemetry patients, fostering a positive and supportive environment.

Requirements

H.S. Diploma or Equivalent Required
CLIAFE Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency Required
PCT Training Program TX CNA, NHA, NAHP, NCCT, accredited community college program or a THR approved program. Not required to maintain certification when applicable after hire. Upon Hire Required Or
EMT - Emergency Medical Technician Military experience with medical training equivalent (Equivalent to EMT-B) Upon Hire Required Or
Nursing student who has completed fundamentals or foreign nurse degree program Upon Hire Required Or
1 year of applicable experience in lieu of an active and approved certification. Upon Hire Required
BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly Required
CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training Maintained Annually 90 Days Required
Possesses organizational skills to function in a fast paced work environment, positive interpersonal skills, and good verbal and written communication skills.
Nursing Students who do not complete course of study in nursing but having completed their Fundamentals Training and EMTs who do not formally retain their EMT status may continue in role if they have consistently demonstrated skills in their PCT position.

Responsibilities

Provides assistance to patient according to plan of care.

Enters orders into computer or manual system if applicable.

In collaboration/consultation with the nurse, adapts care to reflect patient population.
In collaboration/consultation with nurse, incorporates cultural/religious needs and beliefs into delivery of care.
Keeps patient environment clean and maintains safe environment.
Anticipates patient/family and visitor needs and takes action to meet those needs and rounds as appropriate.
