About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) Ambulatory Surgery role at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano involves providing assistance to patients according to their plan of care. This includes collecting patient data, identifying and reporting significant findings to the nurse, and assisting with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges. The PCT will also revise patient activities of daily living based on patient/family preferences, perform technical procedures safely and proficiently, and take action to reduce or eliminate patient risks. Documentation is a key responsibility, as is adapting care to reflect the patient population and incorporating cultural/religious needs and beliefs in collaboration with the nurse. Maintaining a clean and safe patient environment, anticipating patient/family needs, and rounding as appropriate are also essential duties. The role is PRN/As needed with variable day shifts (10 am-6 pm) and requires attendance at orientation/training Monday-Friday, 8 am-5 pm during the first week of hire. Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent Required
  • PCT Training Program TX CNA, NHA, NAHP, NCCT, accredited community college program or a THR approved program. Not required to maintain certification when applicable after hire. Upon Hire Required
  • Or EMT - Emergency Medical Technician
  • Military experience with medical training equivalent (Equivalent to EMT-B) Upon Hire Required
  • Or Nursing student who has completed fundamentals or foreign nurse degree program Upon Hire Required
  • Or 1 year of applicable experience in lieu of an active and approved certification. Upon Hire Required
  • And BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly Required
  • Possesses organizational skills to function in a fast-paced work environment, positive interpersonal skills, and strong communicator, good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Nursing Students who do not complete courses of study in nursing but have completed their Fundamentals Training and EMTs who do not formally retain their EMT status may continue in role if they have consistently demonstrated skills in their PCT position.

  • Anticipates patient/family and visitor needs and takes action to meet those needs and rounds as appropriate.
