About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) reports to the Nurse Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the PCT performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) also reports to the Nurse Manager and, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. This position is with the Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) as a Regular Employee in the CHS - University Internal Medicine (RT) cost center. The work shift is Day, Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, with 20 scheduled weekly hours. A $1,000 sign-on bonus is offered for external CMA candidates only.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
One year of patient care work experience in a health care facility (for PCT).
Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred (for CMA).
Basic computer skills required (for CMA).
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
Possess ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of therapeutic procedures.
Ability to make accurate physical observation of patients.
Possess considerable knowledge of basic medical terminology and human anatomy.

Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire (for PCT).
Must be certified through the American Medical Technologist (AMT) or American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or National Health career Association (NHA) or MedCA as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), National Center for Competency Testing as CMA (NCCT), or National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) (for CMA).

Nice To Haves

Certified Nursing Assistant, EMT or Paramedic certification (for PCT).
Bachelor’s Degree or enrollment in a healthcare related program with successful completion of a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or Nursing Fundamentals course at an accredited institution or equivalent training preferred (for PCT).
Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred (for CMA).
