This role contributes to the achievement of excellence in healthcare by providing strong customer service skills in daily interactions with the public, patients, staff, and physicians. The Patient Care Specialist coordinates physician's schedules, manages calendars, prepares mail, and completes various patient forms including disability and FMLA. They communicate effectively and professionally with a wide range of individuals, including patients, physicians, hospital staff, and insurance companies. The position involves managing on-call duties, scheduling appointments, facilitating peer-to-peer requests, and serving as backup for scheduling calls. A key aspect of the role is maintaining the computer database, collecting payments, and obtaining necessary authorizations for medical tests. The specialist will also compose correspondence, coordinate communication between physicians and patients, and participate in planning and evaluation of patient care by documenting pertinent information. They will keep patients informed of scheduled tests and procedures, and be cross-trained to cover other administrative roles when needed. The role requires utilization of computer software for communication and understanding patient needs, reporting unusual occurrences, and participating in department performance improvement activities, committees, staff meetings, staff development, educational activities, orientation programs, and data collection. Adherence to all Federal and State guidelines, including HIPAA and OSHA, as well as OrthoMaryland's policies and procedures, is mandatory. Other duties as assigned will also be part of the role.
