About The Position

Join Cleveland Clinic’s Mercy Hospital, a 476-bed hospital serving communities in and around Stark County, where caregivers work in a supportive healthcare setting and have access to educational advancement, higher positions, and skills development courses. The hospital’s 28-bed Medical/Surgical Unit, also known as the Clinical Decision Unit, provides care for telemetry and observation patients. The unit is typically fast-paced and uses non-invasive methods to assess, diagnose, and treat medical concerns.

As a Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA), you will work with other caregivers to create a welcoming, healing environment for patients. You will provide or assist with patient care under an RN’s supervision, including hourly rounding and assessing fall risks. This position works nights from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., including every other weekend and holiday.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross; candidates without certification must obtain it during the new-hire period.
• Nursing students must have BLS certification upon hire through the AHA or American Red Cross.
• Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W), or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered.

Nice To Haves

• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA).

Responsibilities

• Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, including taking vital signs and weights; assisting with personal care and activities of daily living; transferring and transporting patients; performing pulse oximetry and point-of-care testing; performing dressing changes; applying external monitoring devices; and removing urinary Foley catheters.
• Report abnormal findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions to an RN.
• Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.
• Participate in hourly rounding and assess fall risks.
• Document patient input and output.
