Mercy Hospital’s 28-bed Medical/Surgical Unit, also known as the Clinical Decision Unit, is a specialized unit that focuses on providing care for both telemetry and observation patients. Half of the rooms on this unit are private. This unit is typically fast-paced and allows our caregivers to assess, diagnose and treat medical concerns with non-invasive methods. As a Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) on this team, you will coordinate with fellow caregivers to create a welcoming, healing and warm environment for patients. You will take part in hourly rounding, assessing fall risks, documenting input and output and more. This position offers the ability to pursue educational advancement, higher positions and skills development courses offered by Cleveland Clinic. In this role, you have an excellent opportunity to start your nursing career and work in a supportive and caring healthcare setting. A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00PM – 7:30AM, including every other weekend and holiday.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross - If you do not hold this certification, you must obtain it during your new hire period
  • Nursing students: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification upon hire through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)

Responsibilities

  • Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN. Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter.
  • Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.
  • Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.
