Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) - Transplant Specialty Care
About The Position
The Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) works on Cleveland Clinic Main Campus in the 34-bed G101 Transplant Specialty Care Unit, which specializes in kidney, pancreas, liver, and intestine surgeries and provides supportive services throughout the transplant process. The PCNA coordinates with fellow caregivers to create a welcoming, healing, and warm environment for patients and provides or assists with care under the supervision of an RN. This role offers opportunities for educational advancement, career progression, and skills development courses. Shifts may be 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m. or 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m.; day and night shifts rotate every six weeks. Weekend rotations are required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, or obtain it during the new-hire period.
- Nursing students must have BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross before hire.
- Proficiency in applied mathematics and reading comprehension at an eighth-grade level.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements, including moving and lifting patients, extensive standing and walking, and exerting the specified levels of force.
Nice To Haves
- State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) credential.
- Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W), or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered.
Responsibilities
- Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN.
- Take vital signs and weight; assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living.
- Assist with patient transfers and transportation.
- Perform pulse oximetry and point-of-care testing.
- Perform dressing changes, apply external monitoring devices, and remove urinary Foley catheters.
- Report abnormal findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions to an RN.
- Help keep patients’ rooms clean and orderly.
