About The Position

The PCN I is enrolled in an accredited nursing program. Working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the PCN I performs delegated patient care activities in accordance with the age-specific needs of the patient to ensure safe, accurate, and high-quality care. Franciscan Health Munster Campus is seeking a Patient Care Novice I (PRN Alternating) for their Emergency Department.

Requirements

Must be enrolled in an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in nursing program fully accredited by either the CCNE or NLNAC.
Must have successfully completed one full rotation (semester, quarter, etc.) of nursing clinicals through a fully accredited school of nursing.
Must be in good standing in their program.
Basic Life Support Program (BLS) - American Heart Association

Responsibilities

Documents patient care information to ensure timely and accurate completion of patient care records.
Communicates and reports patient data and information to the RN to ensure appropriate and timely care.
Provides psychological, physical, and emotional support to patients, answering questions about treatment plans, medications, diet, or physician instructions.
Assists in the onboarding and training of new coworkers.
Verifies inventory levels, orders, receives, and stores supplies and equipment, and maintains inventory and equipment logs.
Performs delegated patient care activities as directed by medical staff, aligned with age-specific needs.
Provides activities of daily living (ADLs) including hygiene, assistance with feeding and elimination, positioning, mobility, and ambulation.
Gathers patient information such as vital signs, point-of-care glucose testing, intake and output, weights, and specimen collection.
Performs urinary catheter and ostomy care.
Restocks patient room and unit supplies and performs equipment checks.
Transports patients by wheelchair, cart, bed, or bassinet.
Answers call-lights and telephones.
Records observations, actions, and interventions into the medical record.
