About The Position

The Patient Care Manager provides leadership and operational oversight for the inpatient behavioral health unit, ensuring appropriate staffing, quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and efficient daily operations. This position supervises and develops staff, monitors quality and safety indicators, addresses patient and employee concerns, and ensures compliance with organizational and Ohio Department of Behavioral Health requirements. The Patient Care Manager also collaborates with leadership, physicians, staff, and community agencies to support the overall goals and operations of Shepherd Hill.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Ohio required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in behavioral health, psychiatric nursing, or an inpatient setting preferred.
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or management experience preferred, including experience with staffing, scheduling, employee performance, and disciplinary processes.
  • Knowledge of behavioral health regulations and accreditation standards, including OhioDBH, TJC/DNV, ISO, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to perform and oversee direct patient-care responsibilities, including age/population-specific care, restraint application, infection control, and safety procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor quality and performance indicators, conduct audits, identify trends or deficiencies, and implement corrective actions.
  • Strong leadership, communication, conflict-resolution, and customer-service skills, with the ability to address patient concerns and effectively lead staff.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with hospital leadership, physicians, clinical teams, community agencies, and regulatory organizations.
  • Ability to participate in administrative/on-call responsibilities in the absence of the Director of Behavioral Health.
  • Knowledge of mandatory reporting requirements, including MUIs, abuse/neglect, safety concerns, and applicable OhioDBH/ADAMH reporting requirements.
  • LMH is accredited by DNV and TJC, and as such, may require specific annual education related to specialty certifications and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provides daily leadership and operational oversight for the inpatient behavioral health unit, including coordinating staffing and addressing operational needs.
  • Ensures delivery of safe, high-quality patient care and assists with direct nursing duties and unit staffing as needed.
  • Monitors compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements, including TJC/DNV, ISO, and Ohio Department of Behavioral Health standards.
  • Supervises staff performance, including interviewing, hiring, onboarding, coaching, disciplinary action, performance evaluations, and competency reviews.
  • Monitors quality and safety indicators, investigates identified concerns or variations, and implements appropriate corrective actions.
  • Reviews patient satisfaction feedback, resolves patient and customer concerns, and completes follow-up as appropriate.
  • Develops employee schedules, reviews time-off requests, and monitors staffing levels to ensure adequate unit coverage.
  • Collaborates with Behavioral Health leadership, hospital departments, committees, and community agencies to support patient care and departmental goals.
