About The Position
UW Medicine Montlake- Surgical Specialties/ Thoracic Surgery Specialties has an outstanding opportunity for a Patient Care Coordinator. This role involves using the ability to triage medical information in the Thoracic Surgery department within Surgical Specialties to a variety of Health Care Professionals using effective oral and written communication. The coordinator works independently under the general direction of a physician or their designee to coordinate pre- and post-surgery diagnostic procedures, tests, and follow-up patient appointments. They act as a liaison between patients, consulting physician, referring physician, or outside agency to coordinate patient appointments, admission, anesthesia, and surgery. This role also involves obtaining all necessary medical records, diagnostic studies, pathology items, etc., that are needed for patient care. The Patient Care Coordinator demonstrates the ability to be organized and effectively prioritizes work tasks for the needs of the clinic, requests interpreters as appropriate for appointments, admissions, and surgery, and collaborates with all members of the clinic team to ensure exceptional patient care and satisfaction. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in a medically related or public relations field, AND two (2) years experience in a tertiary patient care setting involving interaction with a variety of medical services, contact with patients and families, interaction with physicians, and proficiency in medical terminology; OR Equivalent education/experience.
- Proficiency in medical terminology
