Albany Medical Center•Albany, NY
•$19 - $23

About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) works under the direction of a Registered Nurse and assists the caregiving team in delivering competent, compassionate care to assigned patients in the Surgical and Neuroscience ICU. During assigned work periods, the PCA collects patient data, provides personal care, performs point-of-care testing such as whole blood glucose testing, and helps turn, position, and mobilize patients. The role supports patients’ progress toward discharge, including transitions within the acute care stay. PCAs are trained to perform technical procedures such as blood draws and electrocardiography. The PCA helps ensure resources are available for patient care by collaborating with Materiel’s Coordinators on the use, stocking, and storage of supplies. The role also contributes to a clean, orderly, and safe care environment and may include serving as an activity companion for patients requiring one-to-one observation. This position is 36 hours per week on the night shift. Weekend and holiday commitments are per staffing guidelines. The position may require access to sensitive information, including HIPAA-protected health information; workforce members must limit access, use, and disclosure to the minimum necessary and protect information against unauthorized access and modification.
