About The Position

The Patient Care Associate (PCA)/Student Nurse/Unit Secretary provides high-quality direct patient care to an assigned group of patients, working collaboratively with the patient, family, and other care team members. The role partners with the RN to support optimal patient outcomes and may also provide clerical support, including facilitating communication among care providers and visitors in person or by telephone.

The position is part-time at 60% (two shifts per week) on the night shift, from 6:00 PM to 6:30 AM, with every third weekend. It is based in the 3A Med Surg - Renal department in Chillicothe. On-call work is not required. Daily activities are performed under the direct supervision of a Patient Care Coordinator, Registered Nurse, or Assistant Nurse Manager, and indirect supervision of the Nurse Manager or Director. The role has access to confidential patient information and requires communication with team members about care provided.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality direct patient care to an assigned group of patients.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living.
• Use safe patient handling equipment.
• Measure and document patient intake and output.
• Remove Foley catheters and manage external urinary catheters.
• Set up telemetry monitors.
• Monitor blood glucose.
• Set up oxygen.
• Perform tasks delegated within the employee's scope of practice and skill set.
• Provide clerical support to the care team as needed.
• Facilitate communication with or between care providers and visitors, in person or by telephone.
• Collaborate with the patient, family, and other care team members, including working with the RN to achieve optimal outcomes.
• Communicate with team members regarding care provided to assigned patients.
• Carry out daily activities under the stated direct and indirect supervision.
