About The Position
The Patient Care Associate (PCA), Student Nurse, or Unit Secretary provides high-quality direct care to an assigned group of patients. Care includes activities of daily living and delegated tasks within the employee’s scope of practice and skill set. The position may also provide clerical support to the care team and facilitate communication with care providers and visitors, in person or by telephone. The associate works collaboratively with the patient, family, and other care team members, including the RN, to support optimal outcomes. The role has access to confidential patient information and requires communicating with team members about care provided. Daily activities are performed under the direct supervision of a Patient Care Coordinator, Registered Nurse, or Assistant Nurse Manager, and the indirect supervision of the Nurse Manager or Director. This is a full-time, night-shift role in the 3A Med Surg – Renal department in Chillicothe, working three shifts per week and every third weekend. On-call work is not required. The posting describes hourly pay based on nursing experience and education.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality direct patient care to an assigned group of patients.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living.
- Use safe patient handling equipment.
- Measure and document patient intake and output.
- Remove Foley catheters and manage external urinary catheters.
- Set up telemetry monitors and oxygen.
- Monitor blood glucose.
- Carry out tasks delegated according to scope of practice and skill set.
- Provide clerical support to the care team as needed.
- Facilitate communication among care providers and visitors, in person or by telephone.
- Collaborate with patients, families, RNs, and other care team members to achieve optimal outcomes.
- Communicate with team members about care provided to assigned patients.
- Protect confidential patient information.
