Patient Care Assistant (PCA) - Med Surg
About The Position
Under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse, the Patient Care Assistant provides basic nursing care to an assigned group of patients. Care settings across the system serve patients ranging from newborns to older adults, depending on the unit, and include general nursing, special care, maternal-child, pediatric, GI lab, chemical dependency, psychiatric, emergency, and surgical services. The position requires completion of established competencies within the designated introductory period and may include other related duties as assigned. The role is part of a patient-care support team focused on providing assistance and comfort to patients throughout their healthcare experience.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- BLS certification obtained through an approved American Heart Association Training Center or the Military Training Network.
- Complete Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training within 60 days of hire or transfer to the position.
Nice To Haves
- Satisfactory completion of a Nurse Assistant, EMT, Paramedic, or Medical Assisting course.
- Six months of experience in the healthcare industry and/or knowledge of basic medical terms and procedures.
Responsibilities

- Provide assistance and comfort to patients.
- Complete established competencies for the position within the designated introductory period.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
