About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant - GB is an unlicensed staff member who is accountable to and completes delegated tasks from the RN in a caring and culturally sensitive manner, with excellent customer service at all times. This role involves collecting initial and on-going data regarding patient health status, following an individualized plan of care, and carrying out interventions safely and in compliance with policy. The PCA accurately documents patient response to intervention/therapy and communicates with other members of the healthcare team. For safety reasons, employees under the age of 18 are not allowed to operate or assist with the operation of power-driven hoisting apparatuses or provide care to patients with potential exposure to radioactive substances and/or ionizing radiations. Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of general nursing assistant functions
  • Certified Nurse Aide / Assistant (CNA) - State for all other states
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) or must complete BLS certification with in the first two weeks of employment
  • 16- and 17-year-olds are eligible to be hired as a PRN.

Nice To Haves

  • Courses in medical terminology
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention - Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI)

Responsibilities

  • Collects initial and on-going data as delegated in regards to the health status of the patient based on chart documentation.
  • Follows an individualized plan of care that promotes positive immediate and long-term outcomes for the patient/family and reflects the plan of the entire health care team.
  • Carries out interventions safely and in compliance with policy to facilitate achievement of expected outcomes as delegated.
  • Accurately documents patient response to intervention /therapy based upon expected outcomes.
  • Carries out delegated patient care activities and communicates with other members of the healthcare team as evidenced by positive patient outcomes.
