The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) in the Burnet Emergency Department (ED) is responsible for providing approved care to assigned patients and assisting in the implementation of interventions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). This role involves supervising and assisting patients with activities of daily living, offering assistance to co-workers after completing their own duties, using crisis control techniques for de-escalation, and assisting with patient transport and 1-on-1 patient observation as needed. The PCA is expected to demonstrate Cincinnati Children's CARES behaviors, report patient status changes, complete timely documentation, seek guidance when needed, and discuss concerns with their Director. They are also responsible for ensuring a safe, organized, and efficient environment, complying with infection control and safety procedures, responding to patient alarms with urgency, answering the telephone according to etiquette, assembling charts, ordering supplies, and potentially assisting in the orientation and training of new employees.
